NIH Joins DataCite Consortium

NIH has established a DataCite Consortium membership as part of the efforts to streamline the ability for NIH funded resources to be able to easily mint digital object identifiers (DOIs). DOIs are persistent identifiers that help data preservation, citation and serve as a measure for data reuse. This is important in the context of the new DMSP policy and its implementation to enhance discoverability and access of NIH funded data. Additionally, it will be cost effective established as a consortium NIH consortium while providing seamless, coordinated technical and administrative support and enable easy scalability to support the anticipated growth in need for DOIs.
