/ 10.21.16

By Astrid Haugen

On October 7, 2016, the NIH Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K) program released a Funding Opportunity Annoucement (FOA) for RFA-CA-16-020 “BD2K Support for Meetings of Data Science Related Organizations (U13)”. The purpose of this FOA is to support high quality and impactful conferences or meetings convened by community-based, data science-related organizations that help to carry out critical work related to biomedical data science and are aligned with the goals and Mission Statement of the NIH BD2K program.

For this announcement, a conference is defined as a gathering (e.g., a symposium, seminar, scientific meeting, workshop, or any other organized and formal meeting where people assemble) to coordinate, exchange, and disseminate information; or to explore or clarify a defined subject, problem, or area of knowledge. Applicants may request support for one or a series of meetings over multiple years. Conferences that would be appropriate for support under this FOA may be in diverse areas of the field of biomedical data science and include, but are not limited to, the following aspects:

  • Digital resource discovery, citation, and access
  • Data and metadata standards
  • Ethical Legal and Social Implications (ELSI) of biomedical data science
  • Data management, transformation, and analysis tools

The deadline for applications is December 15, 2016.

Permission to submit application letters is required. Applicants are urged to initiate contact well in advance of the application due date to discuss the proposed meetings to ensure that they address current BD2K programmatic priorities. This initial contact should occur 6 weeks prior to the application due date of December 15, 2016.

Please visit the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page for more information on this FOA.
