I am working with Chris Marcum at NIAID on creating an automatic report generation tool that can help decision makers analyze data from the database of Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGaP) requests easier.
Developing data visualization skills.
On the technical side, I want to develop the data visualization skills needed for effective science communication and gain practical experience in open source development. On the soft skill side, I want to be a better presenter, and get a better understanding of how science is done from an end-to-end manner and what data science can do to speed up or improve the process.
Making an impact.
Aside from learning new things, I am most excited about the impact the tool could bring to the decision-making process by solving many of the current pain points. I am also excited to be able to present my project and meet scientists who are well-respected in their fields.
