NIH-Coding it Forward Civic Digital Fellowship Program

The NIH Office of Data Science Strategy (ODSS) collaborates with Coding it Forward to bring Civic Digital Fellows to the NIH each summer to explore public service using their data-related skills. Coding it Forward is a non-profit by and for early-career technologists to create new opportunities and pathways into public interest technology.

Fellows apply their curiosity, creativity, and passion to complete projects that help improve the effectiveness and efficiency of program management and administrative tasks at NIH, grow their professional and career skills, network with peers and NIH staff, and learn about various data-related career options through Friday Career Chats with NIH staff.

Fellows work closely with NIH supervisors, mentors, and staff. The ODSS program team provides additional support and resources for the fellows and facilitates cohort activities. Through this program, fellows can experience first-hand the compelling mission of the NIH, the collaborative spirit of the staff that drives the agency, and the many ways that data expertise can contribute and make a positive impact in biomedical sciences.
