CDM and FHIR® Harmonization Resources

This webpage contains useful resources and tools for researchers exploring the use of the Health Level Seven International (HL7®) Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) specification and common data models (CDMs) used in research. FHIR can be used in conjunction with CDMs to capture, integrate, and exchange clinical data for research purposes and to enhance sharing capabilities of research data.

CDM and FHIR Harmonization Resources

The table below contains mappings, mapping tools, and educational resources to aid clinical researchers who are interested in harmonizing clinical data and FHIR for research. The resources are focused on harmonizing FHIR with four CDMs used by researchers:

  1. Informatics for Integrating Biology & the Bedside (i2b2) CDM,
  2. Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP),
  3. Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Network (PCORnet) CDM, or
  4. Sentinel CDM.
