Meet the 2019 Coding it Forward Civic Digital Fellows

Civic Digital Fellowship

This summer, NIH is hosting several Civic Digital Fellows from Coding it Forward, a non-profit focused on the next generation of technology leaders. These fellows are spending 10 weeks at NIH channeling their computational expertise toward hands-on experience with biomedical data-related challenges.

Vivian Cheung, California Polytechnic State University, liberal arts and engineering studies

Vivian is working with Amber Simco and David Olson in the Office of the Chief Information Officer’s Division of Compliance, Audit, and Risk Management in the Information Security and Awareness Office within the Office of the Director (OD).

David Frankel, Washington University in St. Louis, computer science

David is working with Bart Trawick and Carl Leubsdorf in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM). 

Sarah Frost, University of California, Santa Cruz, computational media

Sarah is working with Nick Weber at the Center for Information Technology. 

Sam Kim, Duke University, biology and computer science

Sam is working with Katrina Pearson-Robinson in the Office of Extramural Research’s Division of Statistical Analysis and Reporting within the OD. 

Ariel Langer, University of California, Berkeley, data science

Ariel is working with Kerry Goetz on the National Ophthalmic Disease Genotyping and Phenotyping Network Initiative, which is part of the National Eye Institute. 

Nik Marda, Stanford University, computer science and political science

Nik is working with Bart Trawick and Carl Leubsdorf in the NCBI at the NLM. 

Amit Rajesh, Cornell University

Amit Rajesh, Cornell University, computer science and chemistry

Amit is working with Nick Weber at the Center for Information Technology. 

Isaac Robinson, Yale University, computer science

Isaac is working with John Prue in the Office of Information Technology at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.  

Alaz Sengul, Columbia University, computer science

Alaz is working with Andrew Miklos in the Office of Program Planning, Analysis, and Evaluation at the National Institute of General Medical Sciences.
